Get started with HippoCam

Use HippoCam to quickly capture and label the things you want to remember.
Snap a photo, add labels, notes, and location — and find your memories later when you need them.
Your memories stay saved on your device, with no accounts or tracking required.

Use Camera to capture a memory

When you open HippoCam, the Camera appears automatically.
Use it to quickly capture the items you want to remember.

Zoom and focus

  • Pinch to zoom in or out
  • Tap to focus on an object

Capture a memory

  • Long-press on the object to capture and label it
  • Tap the Capture button
  • Press a volume button to take a photo

Torch

  • Tap the Flash button to turn the flash on or off

  • Swipe up to open your list of memories
  • Swipe down to search existing memories

Label objects in your memory

After capturing a photo, you can label objects in your memory.

Add a label

  • Tap on the object you want to label
  • A text field will appear — type your label
  • You can clear the text field to remove the label

Zoom the image

  • Pinch to zoom in or out on the image

Dismiss the photo

  • Tap Done or Cancel button
  • Or swipe down to go back to the Memory Details

View and manage your memory

Tap a memory to view its details.
You can add tags, notes, manage/view location, and share the memory.

View your memory

  • See the full photo of your memory
  • View all labels you added

Labeled Items

Detect and manage text in Image

  • Tap Detect Text to extract text from the image
  • Tap on Detected Text (small green dot) to make to a label
  • Detected text will be saved with your memory details
  • Find a memory by the detected text in image
  • Remove unwanted detected text directly in the memory form

Add tags

  • Tap Tags to add tags to your memory
  • You can add multiple tags
  • Tags help you organise and search your memories

View and manage location

  • Tap Use Current Location to attach your current location to the memory
  • If available, the memory’s location is shown on a map
  • Tap Open in Maps to view the location in Maps app
  • Tap Remove Location to delete the location info

Add notes

  • Tap Notes to add extra details or context
  • Notes are saved with your memory and can be searched

Share your memory

  • Tap the Share button to share original image

Delete your memory

  • Tap the Trash button to delete the memory
  • Deleted memories are permanently removed from your device

Browse your memories

Swipe up on the Camera screen or open the app to browse your memories.
From the memory list, you can search, sort, and open your saved memories.

  • Swipe up on the Camera screen
  • Or tap the Memories button (if available in top-right corner)

Browse your memory list

  • Scroll through your list of saved memories
  • Memories are sorted with the newest memory at the top (last created memory first)
  • Each memory shows its label, date, tags, notes, and location (if available)
  • Tap a memory to view and manage its details
  • Swipe left to delete a memory (careful: no delete confirmation alert is shown)

Siri & Spotlight with HippoCam

HippoCam now works with Siri and Spotlight, so you can open your recent memories hands-free or directly from system search.

  • Say “Hey Siri, show my aipods in HippoCam” to instantly open one of your last 20 saved items
  • Type the label you’re looking for directly in you Spotlight

Smart Search your memories

  • Swipe down on Camera screen to search your saved memories
  • Or tap on the search bar in memory list
  • Search by label, tag or word in notes or recognised text (no matter the order)
