Your chats are not the price. Meet CraftApps

Problem

The best clue to what software you need is already written down. It’s in your AI chats: the same request every week, the spreadsheet you update by hand every Monday, the idea you’ve noted three times and never started.

It’s also the most private thing you’ve typed. Would you hand your chat history to an app to find out what to build?

I wouldn’t, at least not as it is. So I made something that never needs it that way.

Meet CraftApps

CraftApps is a new fruit in my garden, and a different kind of fruit: not an app, but a set of skills for your AI agent. It helps anyone, developer or not, find, build, and share small apps they own. Version 0.1.0 is out now.

It works with any capable LLM, cloud or local, and any agent that can read files and run commands.

What happens to your chats

Say “find me something useful to build”, and this is the order things happen in:

  1. A script cleans them on your computer. No AI, no internet. It keeps only your own messages and removes keys, passwords, emails, and phone numbers.
  2. You read the cleaned file first. Delete anything you like.
  3. Only then does the agent read it. It looks for the problems you keep hitting, and every suggestion cites its evidence.

And this is what never happens. The skills don’t upload anything or call any service with your data. There’s no telemetry, so CraftApps doesn’t even know you use it. When it searches the web, the search describes the idea, never you. Its notes and plans stay in a craftapps/ folder that’s kept out of git, even inside your own projects.

Rather not share chats at all? It can interview you about your routines, or look at a project instead.

At your level

First, it asks whether you’ve built anything before. If you haven’t, you get plain words and every step done for you. If you code, even in a different corner of software from the one your app needs, you get short technical choices instead.

Then it gives you an honest first answer. It checks whether an app already does the job and tells you so. It proposes the smallest fix that works: a tool you already have, a saved prompt, an automation, or a small app. If it’s an app, it plans with you, builds in small steps, and checks each one. You end up with a native app for the devices you already use, or a Shortcut or script when that’s enough, plus a HOW-IT-WORKS.md so you understand what you own.

You decide at four checkpoints: what to build, the plan, whether the app is done, and anything made public.

Built to keep working

An app made this way keeps working without a subscription, an account, a server, or an AI. It’s native and uses what your device already provides, so there’s less to break, update, and trust. The AI helps you build it. It doesn’t have to run it.

That’s where the tokens are saved. If you ask an AI to do the same thing every week, an app can do it for free, forever. And an app built once and shared doesn’t need to be built again.

When you want to share, it puts your app wherever you like: a code host, Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive, or a zip file. It checks for secrets and personal data first and shows you exactly what will be shared. I’m also planning the CraftApps Library, a free list of apps people made with CraftApps. It isn’t live yet, but submissions are already welcome at craft.apps@aigarden.uk.

Limits

Local files aren’t local processing when the model is in the cloud. If you use a cloud model, its provider processes what the agent reads. For maximum privacy, use a local model.

All four skills are early, and I’d rather say so now than have you find out.

Try it

In Claude Code:

/plugin marketplace add RogyMD/craftapps
/plugin install craftapps@craftapps

In Codex, add the repository from the plugin settings. In any other agent, tell it: “Read skills/discover-app/SKILL.md from CraftApps and follow it.”

It’s MIT-licensed: use, change, and share the skills freely.

Closing

Your data stays yours, even while it’s helping you.

Read the v0.1.0 release: https://github.com/RogyMD/craftapps/releases/tag/v0.1.0

Everything else, including how to report bugs and ideas, is in the README: https://github.com/RogyMD/craftapps#readme

Tell me what you think, and what you’d build first.

Best wishes 🍏
